Qigong can help to improve the lives of cancer patients
In a clinical study of qigong as a therapeutic aid for patients with advanced cancer, 127 patients with medically diagnosed malignant cancer were divided into a 'qigong' group of 97 patients and a 'control' group of 30 patients.
All patients received drugs, and the qigong group practiced qigong for more than 2 hours a day over a period from 3 to 6 months.
As the results on the left show, both groups of patients experienced improved conditions, but those in the 'qigong' group and a much greater improvement in strength, appetite, etc.
This shows that Qigong can improve the lives of advanced cancer patients.

Case Study
The following is a testimonial by Ilana, a breast cancer patient. You may take note of her mentality during her exercise.
She was originally diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, but wanted a natural approach instead of conventional therapy. Qigong, the ancient art of healing the body and mind, appealed to her.
She subscribed to dvd's from China and learnt how to do Qigong. Eventually, she even traveled to Mount Wudang and experienced Qigong training there for 2 weeks.
She believed that the key to mastering and benefiting significantly from Qigong was to practise regularly. Quantitatively speaking, she made sure she had the determination to practise for at least once a day.
"The practice starts with ‘preparatory movement’ which means gentle exercises to prepare the body for the meditation. The meditation itself is done with certain positions – your hands stretched out to the sides and/or up for several minutes each.
The practice ends with exercises, again, this time to loosen the body. You have to do it to really understand it. The focus is in the “lower tandian” a space in the abdomen... Actually you have to try and not think about anything – just breathe naturally ... This has a curative effect on the body and mind. In essence, in Chinese medicine and philosophy when dealing with cancer the idea is to keep the body strong, to keep the healthy cells strong instead of “killing” the malignant cells. ...this is a good approach – a strong immune system achieved through exercise and meditation, and good nutrition can do that, and the cancer perhaps cannot take over."

Summary
Qigong can effectively help in cancer recovery. Qigong can clear energy blockages, and can increase energy levels. When the energy blockage is cleared and when there is sufficient energy to work the body's natural functions, yin-yang harmony is restored. Yin symbolises the body systems, and yang the disease causing agents. When harmony is restored, health conditions will improve. Qigong accomplishes this very well. Thus Qigong is able to help in the recovery of cancer.
